Reading is the gateway to learning. We support our learners to understand that reading is the key to their future academic achievement and well-being. We ensure our learners have access to high quality text throughout the curriculum.
We also understand to create an inclusive and welcoming learning space, the books we offer our learners must reflect the world around them. Seeing themselves reflected positively in books will raise their self-esteem and confidence.
EMLM holds a strong belief that reading for pleasure can be a deeply rewarding experience for our learners. With this in mind we decided to participate in the Book Buzz programme, run by Book Trust, it is a great initiative targeted at encouraging children to read for pleasure. Several schools have signed up to participate in giving children the opportunity to choose and keep a book from a list of 16 fiction and non-fiction titles.
